About our name change
In 2019 we changed our name from the Resource Network for Linguistic Diversity (RNLD) to Living Languages.
Here’s a short FAQ to explain.
Why did we change our name?
We have grown and changed since we were founded as a simple “resource network” back in 2004. More importantly, we wanted a name that reflects what we see in our work—the energy of the people who care for and draw strength from their languages, and the living, growing languages themselves, with all their resilience and richness.
What does the logo show?
The imagery of deep roots (or river waterways) represents the many language groups. Colourful dots symbolise the seeds of language, while leaves show its growth. There is also a speech bubble to communicate oral language, and a nurturing hand. Finally, the yarning circle conveys story-telling and the passing on of knowledge.
How can you find us?
We are still located in the same office, at 19-21 Argyle Place South, Carlton VIC 3053.
We will continue to receive emails sent to our @rnld.org addresses until the end of 2019, but we have new @livinglanguages.org.au email addresses. See our contact page for more details.
What else has changed?
Nothing else has changed! We are still working to support communities to manage and make decisions about their own language and language work, and to access the training they need to do that.
